From Randy Bayne at California Progress Report (14 July):
At the end of the Executive Board of the Californian Democratic Party meeting this weekend an informal, show-of-hands straw poll was taken on presidential preferences of those in attendance. The results were:
John Edwards: 47 votes, 40%
Al Gore: 27 votes, 22%
Dennis Kucinich: 17 votes, 14%
Barack Obama: 12 votes, 10%
Bill Richardson: 12 votes, 10%
Hillary Clinton: 2 votes, 2%
Joe Biden: 1 vote, 1%
Undecided: 6 votes, 5%
Chris Dodd: 0 votes
Mike Gravel: 0 votes
Total Votes: 124
This is extremely important as it tells you that among influential local Party activists there is a currently an "invisible" (to the MSM) groundswell of support for Edwards that isn't showing up in the way-too-early-to-be-very-meaningful media polls. Along with his winning the strawpolls at the Democratic Party state convention in Wisconsin and gathering of activists in north Georgia (three very different states) there seems to be a trend developing.
